Day 18 -20 Sept 7-9

Well its time to say goodbye to the west and start heading for home. We have a couple of huge days ahead of us as we make our way back east.

Said goodbye to Mike and Fee about 6am on Wednesday morning and made our way out of Perth and headed towards Coolgardie . Saw a couple of motor bikes all loaded up and travelling as we drove through Coolgardie and another fellow in Norseman on a big KTM all loaded up and heading east. Tried to get some photos but wasn't quick enough most of the time.Just continued to roll onward and wound our way across the country through Norseman , Balladonia and finally called it a day after 1200 km at Cocklebiddy.
It was beautiful to sit outside our very isolated motel unit with a drink and dinner and look up the stars in the sky.
Up again at 4am the next morning to hit the road. We had a few tense hours till sunrise as there are lots of kangaroos around so thank goodness for the spotlights on the car as it made them much easier to spot. We even had another vehicle piggyback behind us to avoid the wildlife.
We continued to roll along through a huge variety of landscapes and weather ranging from not a cloud in the sky to torrential rain. If anyone saw the news about the massive electrical storm they had in Adelaide, we were right in the middle of it. Just as well we were able to follow a truck at that stage as otherwise wouldn't have been able to see anything.
Our day started in Cocklebiddy WA and ended in Murray Bridge SA - roughly 1600 kms and 18 hours . Fell into bed at the motel and then up again this morning at 5am and back into Bendigo at about 1pm.

Overall with our time travelling on the bike , we have covered nearly 10,000 kms. Quite a road trip I'm thinking.
Had a great time and saw so much of our wonderful country.

Day 17 Sept 6 A day in Perth

Well today is our last day before we start the big trek back home. So plenty of washing and drying and bike back on the trailer.
We headed down to Fremantle for a morning coffee in the strip which is very reminiscent of Lygon Street and then a wander round the sreets and onto Little Creatures Brewery fro lunch and a tasting plate that Robbo would have been proud of. Also see the statue of Bond Scott that sits near the harbour.
As I sit here , Russ has headed off to catch up with an old work colleague and I am doing the last of our packing.
Its been fantastic catching up with Mike and Fee and looking around the south western corner of WA - would like to come back and spend a lot onger here as there is so much to look at.

Dy 16 Sept 5 Jurien Bay to Perth

We woke up to a beautiful morning so Russ took the opportunity to sneak off early and try a spot of fishing. Didn't catch anything but managed to see a dolphin playing around and giving the cormorants some competition for the fish.
Headed around 9.30 am and headed south to the Pinnacles which are limestone formations that have been exposed due to the shifting sands and the effect of erosion - provides a real moonscape that the Apollo landing could have been filmed in.
Continued down along the Indian Ocean Drive ( and yes you can see the ocean as you head south) and stopped in at Lancelin for lunch from the local Vietnamese bakery.
One of our goals was to see if we could spot a kangaroo for Fee but had no success in the wild so dropped into to Yanchep National Park . They have a koala walk and yes there were koalas but asleep still Fee was happy to see them.  After much looking finally tracked down some roos . Obviously used to humans and tolerated everyone getting close and taking pictures. Our job was done so back on the bikes and headed straight for home.
Excellent trip with lots of memories for us and some new sights for our brits.
