Day 3 Aug 21 Port Lincoln to Penong
Today was another of travelling and looking at the variation in the landscapes as we drove past. We went from lush deep soil to rocky beach side scenery but more than anything it is evident that to this point in time the rain gods have been good to everyone as all the crops are looking magnificent even in the marginal areas.
We left Port Lincoln about 9am and headed up the western side of the Eyre Peninsula .
This is a great undiscovered part of Australia as there are so many beautiful bays with pristine clear waters and gorgeous white beaches that are so quite.
We stopped at Coffin Bay to check out where the best oysters in Australia come from then we continued up the coast checking out all these great spots.
All along the way there are a lot of rocky pastures and it seems that the early settlers must have used these flat rocks to make all their fences as they are everywhere. Hard work as far as I am concerned.
Also managed to find the well where John Eyre stopped on his way to Albany in 1840. Yes the original well is still there though by the look of it you would have to desperate to use it - maybe they were.
We stopped at Streaky Bay for lunch and it was an absolutely beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky and 21 degrees.
Onto Ceduna to fuel up and then onto Penong for the night. Great little cabin in this little town . Ducked over to the pub for a quick drink to enjoy the atmosphere of such an isolated spot and then back to the caravan park for a BBQ and a quiet wine.
Tomorrow is a very early start as we plan to head off to the head of the bight to see if we can see some whales and then hopefully get to Norseman.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
Looking good so far. Lots of straight roads by the looks. We have had a couple of light showers both days but still mild. Just packing up to head off to get the hire care and head to Bath. Will be nice to see some country side.
